The following are 5 types of visas issued for entry into Nigeria. Of these, the first 3 are classed as Ordinary visas on the Nigerian Immigration Application Portal:
1. Transit Visa
2. Single Journey Visa
3. Multiple Journey Visa
4. Diplomatic Visa
5. Gratis (Courtesy) Visa
TRANSIT VISA
This allows a holder to pass through the country on the way to his/her final destination. A transit visa can be given for a period of up to 7 days at any of the Nigerian Missions abroad.
SINGLE JOURNEY VISA
Valid for a single entry into Nigeria
This visa can be issued for any one of the following four purposes:
- Holiday (Tourist Visa)
- Non-employment business visit (Business Visa)
- Specific short term work like equipment repair
installation, feasibility study, account auditing (Temporary Work Permit Visa) - For Employment subject to regularisation upon issue of a “Combined Expatriate
Residence Permit and Aliens Card” following entry.
MULTIPLE JOURNEY VISA
Valid for multiple or a specified number of visits to Nigeria typically within a period of 12 months.
This is mostly given to non-resident directors of Nigerian companies and other foreign business persons to enable them attend meetings and other engagements in furtherance of their business interests in the country.
DIPLOMATIC VISA
Issued to individuals who are members of a foreign government diplomatic corp stationed in Nigeria, their immediate family and household members.
GRATIS COURTESY VISA
Issued to foreign government officials though not part of the diplomatic corp are traveling on official government business.
REGISTRATION
Within 21 days of entry, non-Nigerians intending to reside or work are required to register their presence at the nearest immigration office to their place of work or abode and thereby obtain an ‘Aliens Registration Card’.
